A writer’s brain is full of little gifts, like a piñata at a birthday party. It’s also full of demons, like a piñata at a birthday party in a mental hospital.

Lying face-down to the air
that you
breathe in,
breathe out.
Peace and ease never looked
so great on anyone,
in the diva kind of way,
like, soaking up today’s sun
but this eve’s squall is just about to
blow the top off the bottle,
when only your spirit can truly
glide away.

Was it really
you,
who

took the glint of the knife in her hands
and wondered why it was
so warm, when last time was last time,
and I guess time sure flies because
wasn’t that so long ago?

But goose bumps
covered
your

trembling body,
where you
knew it would
hurt,
and I wanted to scream when it came so close,
too close,
just frozen mid-breath and
breathing too fast,
your chest heaving, breaking
waves and sobs.

Couldn’t stop howling
until
you

Pitched it to the
floor,
stepped around it like
problem solved.

Some things
should not be left
unsaid.
