Her essence is made up of 1 part
beautiful soul,
2 parts broken heart

Every word she speaks is attached at the seams
to a prayer for sunny days
and starry nights

The syllables leave her lips
penetrating the stale air around her
like soldiers drafted
to the front lines

They march in straight lines
with guns at the ready
but white flags in their pockets

A silent war of "Don't Shoot the Messenger"
