she hovered around the flower, unsure of her task.
she needed the nectar, but did not know how to get it.
she paused and watched on as the others achieved sweet success.

the Penguin despite his black and white formality,
had little trouble finding fish
he simply dove into the frigid waters and caught what he could catch.

the Orangutan, even, had already found a plethora
of ripe fruit.
he easily discerned the vibrantly colored fruits from the rest of the jungle
and simply plucked them from the drooping branches.

the Eagle was overly pensive
and mathematical while his search for nourishment required him to fly, to soar
to explore
beyond his nest of equations and charts.

the Toucan flew easily,
his quirks and oddities standing out brightly
from the others
and improving his work

the Rabbit quickly hopped to receive her share,
the Yorkie was just fine.
he yapped and yapped and yapped
‘til his owner paid him any mind.

the hawk (of course) flew effortlessly and swiftly
its wings beat in perfect rhythm and rhyme.
meanwhile the hummingbird isn’t quite as talented,
and IS running out of time.

the
Hummingbird isn’t like any of these others.
she’s petite, with fragile yet flexible bones.
dull, with a few colorful feathers in the midst of her grayness.
her
Attempts to find nectar have yet to be successful.
in
Rancor and frustration she
finally Delves into the flower.
unlike her previous failures, which were followed by
too cheesy, not right, or ugh,
this attempt was met by the sweet nectar of success.
