What words can't say
You spoke to me with words,
and I looked at you,
with the words I couldn’t say.
You spoke to me with words
filled with such
eloquence
and thoughtfulness
and poise.
Leaving me speechless,
looking for a response.
Searching for the courage
to say the things
I had buried deep down
because you deserved more
than another shallow conversation.
You spoke to me with words
live with passion
and love
and loss.
And I looked at you
knowing I could never impress you
with my words.
Knowing I couldn’t make you feel
the way you made me feel
with a single sentence.
So I said nothing,
and I listened.
And I looked at you
with passion,
and love
and loss.
With feelings.
With the words I meant to say
but couldn’t.
