I felt a Monster, in my Brain

I felt a monster in my brain
It slunk in one cloudy day
like an unwanted relative
asking to spend the night.
It snuck in through a crack in my armor
through a breech in my defenses.
Making itself comfortable
saying it would only stay a while.
But then it never left

It grew stronger
with each passing day.
With each bad feeling
or morose memory I fed to it.
It grew larger.
Gnawing,
Clawing,
at my mind.
Casting a shadow over my life.
Turning good memories grey.
Grabbing happy thoughts by the collar
pulling them back
devouring them whole.

Turning love to hate.
Turning happiness to anger.
Turning joy to pain.

There is a monster in my brain.

I love Emily Dickinson, and your poem really did her work justice! Brilliant work! Hope to see more of your work on this website =)
