Dear Future,
First things first: don't leave – stay.
Highlight and label all of your papers – even the “trash”.
Keep your garbage, prizes and opinions close to your heart, or at least close in your binder.
Even trash has a purpose.
40 minutes to create a masterpiece? It's been done before, and you will do it again.
Don't fret if the words won't come – don't wait for them, make up new ones.
It's better to make mistakes than to do nothing at all.
Though this beast might drain you of your sanity, never doubt your heart – it will go on pumping.
Yes, you will be going crazy, but the craziest things in life are the most real things.
Stay real, stay yourself.
Listen just as much as you speak, and read more than that.
Submerge yourself their experiences: sitting in a cell, driving a golden car, wielding a glowing, Celestial Bronze blade and creeping down a hallway beneath an invisibility cloak.
In these stories, we become who we are, but we must hurry.
We will never be in this moment again.
Each day, hour, second, they're as precious and unique as each person in the world.
So, Future, since you will be taking our place, what will you make of it?
You know the better choice, so make it.
If there's a chance, take it.
Got a dream? Chase it.
You are your best story, so what are you waiting for? Get it down.
Tick Tock,
Tick Tock.

This was written as advice to everyone soon to be in in AP Lang, but I realized that it's for anyone following the graduating class of 2013 this year. May it inspire those who read it.
