/Looking for an Easy Way Out

. . .

From underneath the water I watch the smoke rise/
break the sky into distances/
Missed sensations of cloud/
dividing, clinging, opening onto nothing but refracted light/
A plane carries a torn banner/
of my favorite words/
feeling alone in the rippling sky I see through submerged eyes/
the third is dissected/
OR/
break, tear, lost touch/
I wonder if it feels my disappointment/
Promise yourself:/

The ‘or’ is jasmine scented/
Make-Believe/

days are sections too/
we kill a pomegranate possibility/
sweet tastes feed us/
treeless space inside/
don’t doubt/

OR

I can feel it offering itself up/
to the frightful, ignorance, avoidance of the world/
Suggests an alternative./

There is a strength to separation,
traces of magnetic draw,
pulling avocadoes into avoidance,
filling blank spaces
GASM.

Tough to touch.
Lay your finger on it;
and see.
There is a soft, beautiful pulp
between loves:
lostless.

The author's comments:
This one is pretty abstract. Based on a prompt where we were supposed to make a list of things we loved, then one of things we hate, and combine something from each of the lists in a poem. I decided ultimately to include the lists, and, of course, combined everything I could in an imagistic chaos.
