The Subway
Reluctantly trudging into the subway,
the darkness envelopes me.
Fear, worry, anxiety,
They tell me life’s unfair and it is.
Trapped, darkness, distrust,
That’s what it feels like stepping underground;
That’s what I’m waking up to everyday.
Murky shadows around every corner,
I glimpse distressed faces everywhere I look.
The stern faces of officials glare at me,
Daring me to step out of line,
To try to escape the prison that life is.
