"Those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained." William Blake

the sunlight couldn’t warm my skin
shallow breaths, the air too thin
eyes too wet, mouth too dry
promised him I wouldn’t cry

but he had lied
and now I shied
away from the words unsaid
away from the memories in my head

that night forgotten, from long ago
too naive, to think I would know
just from a touch, a gentle brush
unfamiliar passion, heady rush

I didn’t need to worry?
and so I listened

he took off the mask, the facade of pseudo care
left me broken, I’ve been here, left bare

I didn’t need to worry.
and so I listened

there’s nothing left to say
show me a different way

I didn’t need to worry?
you should have listened

to what I never spoke
to what I show
you should have seen
now it’s all just a dream
a sheen
does it mean
it wasn’t ever real?
what did I feel?

what do you feel?
