she calls out,
love; love, as she heaved
the ball high into the air.
listening; our shoes slide
and scrape across the hard,
green court.
feeling; heat from the blazing sun
shining on our backs, not worrying
about the marks it will leave.
the ball sails
back and forth over the net, as
beads of sweat drip down
our red faces.
with a fierce look of never-ending
concentration she brings the racquet
back and swings with
lightning speed.
watching; the ball sails through the
sky, hearing it bounce
just barely,
out of their reach.
