How fast a month flies by,
That even the stars in the sky,
Are surprised by the notice,
To turn in your office,
Another calendar page

How fast time runs,
Leaving time for games,
But not for fun,
As the curtain falls,
And the music starts to play.

Life’s reputation for emptiness,
Is derived from a single source,
Time’s exaggerated swiftness,
Which is even faster than a horse.

I heard a story that told,
Of a rabbit ever so old,
That with fine time in hand,
Ran and ran,
Leaving a little girl terribly sad,

But the girl ran after time and fell,
In a very, very deep well,
And had to endure so many hardships you see,
Because she chased time in his flee,

At last, you must forgive time,
It’s just a family business,
Forced upon its children,
Trained to escape and not to halt.

So the next time you see him,
In whatever shape or form,
Don’t run along beside him,
Just smile and tip your hat,
Let the music play,
The curtains close,

For you see, it’s all just a show,
But with a fee.

I wrote this poem as I returned from my summer vacation on a train from the town in which we were staying. I wrote it on my iPhone.
