The Teenage Prayer

Bloody hands clasped together,
Knees tattooed black and blue.
I get down on the ground and I pray to you.
I pray to you as one suffering from a teenage life,
Fully admitting to my lack of altruistic strife.
I am stuck in a rosebush surrounded by sea,
With scathing hot thorns plunging into me.
And while the roses are lovely, I cannot stay here,
Choking and wheezing and blinded by fear.
I pray to you, to push me in the water,
To treat me for what I am, your truly desperate daughter.
Immerse me in your sea of plausible realities,
And arm me with the courage to survive future calamities.
God I beg you, to strip me of my apprehension,
To be the one who thrives in situations full of tension.
God warm my lips with a lovely potion.
Purge me of my awkwardness and please soothe my emotion.
This prayer comes straight from the confines of my heart.
I need the help of your divinity, for I am not versed in this art.
I give to you, this teenage prayer,
Full of shooting star wishes and nights of despair.
I ask for your help, in the name of all that is bright
To help me find my inner light.

Amen.
