A number two pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.

the only memory
I have
is her walking out the door,

slipping away
like loose sand escaping
from my clutched fist

minutes pass,
but time stands still,
as if it were trying to mock me

every day more hope slips
away
like the girl, like the sand, like the time
that escaped

"Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all people in this world haven't had the advantages you've had." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

I like the comparison of the girl leaving to sand slipping out of a clutched fist; it's beautiful and I love the second stanza! Great work!
