It woke to a chirp
tried to open its eyes, but
the light was blinding
It became suddenly aware
of the freezing cold
surrounding it
Its eyes flew open
to darkness

A darkness that burned
A darkness that reached
through the eyes
and scorched the soul
A darkness that moved
like wildfire
Engulfing its body
