Down The Rabbit Hole

Scrambling,
desperately clinging,
The ground slides like ice and the air is corrosive,
Dirt accumulates under my raw, picked nails,
An acerbic sting fills my respiratory system,
Just another burn, just another scrape,
Twining me to this world that I otherwise have no grip on.

The sky is an indigo tent, stretched too tightly around its’ posts,
Stars are just holes in it’s fabric, exposing the light beyond,
The world is spinning, my hands are slipping,
I can’t hold myself up any longer,
I let go.

And I fall.
I fall
Fall
fall
Through twists and turns,
Down the rabbit hole,
A glimpse of the sky ahead as it collapses in,
I don’t mind,
I smile,
because as it falls, the light takes over,
And the sound of wind rushing past fills my ears,
My own breath joins it as a crystalline fog,
Exhaling the smog and inhaling this crisp, cool air.

A dream? a divine mirage? an ambrosial utopia?
beckoning until consumption and I see nothing else,
Feel nothing else, but the syrupy air that pushes me down further,
hushed voices above join together,
calling
telling me that I’ve gone under, that this labyrinth
doesn’t have an exit, but could a Hell really be so beautiful?

My walls of dreaming torn,
Just another girl fallen in love with the wrong world,
Their pills fall down my throat like gumdrops.
