You can say you like One Direction

and claim they are pure perfection.

You can say you like Kanye West

maybe even think he is the best.

You can adore the modern sound,

But here is what I have found:

Johnny Cash said “I Walk the Line”

and now no fear is mine.

Willie Nelson went “On the Road Again”.

He’s the reason I’ve been where I’ve been.

Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote “Tuesday’s Gone”

teaching me to always look to the new dawn.

You can like Katy Perry

if she makes you merry.

You can love PitBull

if your heart he stole.

But what did they teach you?

Here’s what good old music can do:

Like David Bowie and his “Changes”,

showing me how far my potential ranges.

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

told me to be a lean mean fighting machine.

Don McLean with “American Pie”

taught me to cherish the days before I die.

So while you admire Taylor Swift,

falling over her every rift

Go ahead and listen to Bruno Mars,

one of the largest stars.

I’ll keep rock n’ roll playing,
with my old friends I’ll be staying.
