"A writer is a world trapped inside a person." ~ Victor Hugo

Tapping, tapping at the keys
Make the right sound, please please please!
Each tap is a gamble
A challenge, at least, I can handle
Pressing the keys with the tips of my fingers
The end of a sweet melody lingers
Every new sheet of notes is a riddle
I bite my lip and press the key in the middle.
It sounds right; so I keep on going
And while I play, the music keeps flowing
After a while, my fingers press the keys automatically
And then my thoughts are free.
My mind wanders off to places it’s never been
And I find myself thinking about what it must be like to have a twin
Or who invented drawing, and how?
What would happen if I discovered a new color?
What would happen if I turned into an aardvark right now
What if I had a llama for a mother?
I then find myself at the end of a song
And I think to myself, that didn’t take long
I shrug my shoulders, and turn the page
And then pretend I’m on a stage
And all the people in their shining gowns of gold
Are clapping at my playing, lo and behold!
Shouting, ‘Encore! Encore!’
I humbly smile, then play once more
The king and queen will shake my hand
I’ll become famous where I stand
All this playing through my mind
As I play ‘Moonlit Sonata’ one more time
