There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

I still get flooded
With flashbacks from that summer
Like the times id keep warm in the nuzzle of your neck.
Or when your mommy came home
A little but tipsy
And we belted out laughs
Until our lungs couldn’t take any more
Or when you drifted off
With me laying on your chest
You flinch in your sleep
In case you didn’t know
But I never minded
I always thought it was cute
Once in a while
Id challenge you to a wrestling match
I knew I couldn’t win
I just loved hw safe your arms felt
Wrapped around me
When you pinned me down
And if I was lucky
Youd grace my defeat
With a kiss so soft
Or id steal one of my own
Remember how we’d lie on your floor
And let go of our deepest secrets
I put all my trust, every ounce I had left
In the depths of your soul
But
The truth is
When morning comes
Youll still be gone
And I wont have anybody to keep me warm
Nobody to make me laugh
No warm chest to rest my head on
There will be no wrestling matches
To end in a most comforting defeat
Your secrets will no longer enter my ears
To be safe in my soul forever
And no trust left to give.
The flashbacks that flooded my mind
Are nothing
Just a bittersweet memory
