Growing Disease
Maybe you need therapy…
Maybe you can be “fixed”
But in reality this is something you do to your self
Every time you are asked a question about you
Or asked to speak in front of a group
The nail-biting, leg shaking, constant blinking
Constant thinking and thinking
Thinking of what to say and how you’ll be judged
So to the front of the room you trudged
This growing disease as the years go on
You learn more of how people think of you
You learn why this room makes you blue
If only you would have spoken up
You could have had
That job, that guy, that part, that opportunity
But towards interaction you hold immunity
Your last boyfriend had to try for months before you even spoke to him
You couldn’t push him away so you just gave in
But as long as you follow the trends
As long as what you have blends
Blends in with what society is doing
As long as people accept what they are viewing
Viewing of you and how you dress and act
As long as it isn’t too different you’ll blend in like that!
So if I dress and act confident maybe, I’ll stand out enough to blend in
Because this shyness
This anxiety
Left no room for the real me
