My Skin Is Not Enough

These arms, so long and fragile,
Wrap around your warm body.
It’s been a long night,
My eyes have been lost in the stars,
Captivated once as I followed,
But ignorant and captured
My sight is forever imprisoned
Above the desolate stars.
My body is only a shell next to yours,
The blood on the inside of my flesh
Can no longer be contained

My skin is a barrack
Confining and cruel
My soul cannot escape
This eternal enslavement.
Yes, my dear, as my arms untangle
And as the layer of skin diminishes,
I can only feel you
For your skin is only a mirrored
Reflection of the soul within.
