Lost.
I found myself lost,
?in the woods? as I searched for you. ?
The wind had your voice,?
she sang the song on the classic rock radio station ?
that you used to ?roll down the windows to sing.
?The branches were your hands,
clawing at my ?clothes, and the spider-webs, entwined, clinging to them. ?
There were drops of dew everywhere, it seemed,?
and I was reminded of how your eyes leaked everywhere we went. ?
I once told you that all of your tears must evaporate, ?
fill the clouds, and then fill the ocean;?
You agreed. ?
As I passed the brook, and hobbled over rough and smooth stones,
I thought of the sweat on your skin, the moisture of your blushing lips,
?and the gentle and quickening beat of your heart. ?
Leaves fell around me, like your skin,?
They kissed my hair quickly before hitting the ground. ?
The trees were the worst, because they recalled the two of us,?
terribly stuck in the dirt for what seemed like a lifetime,?
all the while yearning for the heavens, for the love of the sun.?
They could be felt,? like you,
but they were also hollow, like you. ?
I picked yellow daisies,
a dozen or two,?
and crushed them in my palms,?
the way you had always done,?
before I let them leave me,?
like you.
