As children we all once learned to walk,
Tripping and stumbling over our infinitesimal feet,
Then we grew up to run against others and the clock,
Through the bitter cold and the scorching heat

But what is to be done when the race is run,
And the moment slowly drifts on into the past?
Shall we spread our wings and fly into the sun,
Even if the world tells us such dreams won’t last?

Yet, our ardent spirits still ache to soar,
For the sky above us is an infinite wonder.
We must refuse to live life as a repetitive bore
And take the next step to satisfy our adventurous hunger.
And we will learn to fly like never before

So here’s to you and here’s to me
And here’s to everything in between

Here’s to victory and here’s to loss
And here’s to all the rivers, valleys and mountains we've crossed

Here’s to the keeping of tradition and here’s to the escape from banality
And here’s to the seniors of Ridge High School 2013 Cross Country

I wrote this for my senior teammates after my Junior season of Cross Country in dedication to their hard work and in memory of the experiences we had
