From a Child's Eyes
Blue blankets and locks of brown curls
That frame your young face
Little nose, wide eyes
You grip my finger with overlong nails
That beg for love, attention, purpose
Even at two you know rejection
You know pain
I hand you your bottle you’ve dropped and pull you close
A 7 year old mother
To a sister
Your only friend
Mum comes home
And I can pretend to still be a child
If only for a little while
