Small white paws.
A flash of red fur
That blends with the leaves
Sprawled across the ground.
The sharp snout
It smells me from miles.
Hidden from my eyes
You sit wacthing.
The loud snap of a twig
And crunch of dead leaves
An echo through the forest
Heard by no one but you.
Big hazel eyes spy.
Rontu.
It’s been you all along.

The author's comments:
After reading Island of the Blue Dolphin's, I've been interested in the main character's wolf dog, Rontu. In their language, Rontu meant "fox eyes". I felt inspired to write a poem because of the name, and that stupid "What Did The Fox Say?" song was stuck in my head.
