I caught my breath with dirty fingers,

It slid between them until I could hardly grasp it,

My fingers numb, I drew inward on my lungs,

The air swirling through them like a breeze through the leaves,

Then I caught it again, as it came from my lips,

& it stayed in my sweaty palms, like fog on the beach.
