"Poetry is man's rebellion against being what he is." - James Branch Cabell

The things that happened to us
In the past
Good or bad
Teach us a lesson
Change us
In ways you could never imagine
Turning you into the person you never wanted to be

The pain whispering for me to come back
the emptiness I feel inside
The monster calling my name
Urging me back to my darkest days
Tempting me to start again
Tempting me back to the blade
Why must memories of you haunt me?

Harmful thoughts
Poisonous thoughts
Thoughts I want to suppress
Keep them locked away deep inside
So no one would have to hear about my pain or my struggles
But that's what society wants
To close your book
Because society can't handle the truth.

This is one of the poems I hope to publish in my poetry book. Tell me what you think?
