The guardians stood,
Rustling leaves and branches unbowed
To time or weather.

Overhead, fiery red birds
Drew invisible patterns
Upon the shady gray sky.

Far below, ran a babbling blue brook
That flowed over smooth stones
And through new growth.

Along the brook’s banks
Tumbled a mirage of colors:
Green and gold, orange and red.

A tantalizing breeze
Played through it all
Carrying the scent and taste
Of Spring.
