The world fell when money
Became more important
Than happiness

When beauty
Became so essential
We painted our faces and starved ourselves

When survival
Became easy for some
But not for others

When a first world country
Stopped giving
And took for itself

When peacemakers
Tried and failed to make peace
And were shot down by the guns of hate

When war
Became our way of
Saying: "I don't like you"

When want and greed
Overcame need, logic
And sanity

When we filled our atmosphere
With poison, our oceans
With trash

When children
Were abandoned
And adults cried in the streets

When we could not see
The sunset or the stars
Behind the skyscrapers of cities

When we stopped believing in ourselves
And gave up hope
And never fixed the broken world

When lies became easier than truth
Discrimination acceptable
When "all men are created equal" was no longer a truth

The world fell
When we couldn't look past
Our own problems

The world fell
When holding it up
Was left to few

The world fell
When humanity turned on itself
And love shattered into billions of pieces

So that some only had enough for themselves
And others had none
