Imagine this…
You have no faith.
You have no hope.
You have no love.
You give up.
You lie all the time.
You play silly games.
You break a few hearts.
You take what you want.
You still give up.
Just when you figure it out,
That that’s not what you need,
He comes along.
You don’t take him seriously.
You think he’s a joke.
You figure he’s just like the rest.
But…
You find him funny.
You laugh at his jokes.
You tell him secrets.
You trust him.
He steals from you the thing you protect most,
He steals your heart
You fall in love.
You try to run.
He won’t let you.
You tell him to leave,
To let you fall into oblivion.
He’s there to catch you.
He waits for you.
You stop playing games.
You stop lying.
You stop cheating.
You stop giving up.
You just give in.
You give in to his intimacy.
You give in to his smile.
You give in to his kiss.
Oh! His lips…
He promises to never hurt you.
You believe him.
In the blink of an eye,
Everything changes.
It goes from bliss,
To the hiss of curse words,
The pain of lies from his lips.
A foe those lips!
They give such sweet words.
They give such sweet kisses.
They give such bull****.
But you love them.
And you still give in.
You want it to work
You try to fix it
You find him angry all the time.
He doesn’t tell jokes anymore.
You threaten to leave him.
He’s not there to stop you.
He lets you go.
You hurt.
You cry.
You wonder if there’s someone else.
You fall into oblivion.
You hate him.
You wish you didn’t love him.
You wish he would disappear.
Gradually
You forgive him.
You thank him.
He broke your heart,
But he helped you build your character.
He showed you love exists.
He opened your heart.
You now know love.
But you also know your worth.
You won’t ever just give in to just settle.
You’re life’s the play.
He was just an act.
Now imagine that.

My first love inspired me to write this. It began as what felt like the love of a lifetime, but it ended so badly.
