Bruise Me This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

See my breath dancing in the air,
Proof that I'm alive and aware,
Feel the chills creep down my spine,
Sting my cheeks and dry my eyes,
Watch the starlight dance around,
Get lost in the chattering crowds,
Let the wind soar right through me,
Pretend that this will last infinitely,
Search until I find your eyes,
Playfully stare straight into mine,
The tapping of my stilettos,
Hear the whispers, oh my oh,
Walk the sidewalks, just perusing,
Who will be the next to bruise me?
Blackened eyes and burnt red lips,
Haughty walk, my swaying hips,
Glares boring the back of my head,
Some things are better left unsaid,
Pretending I'm still innocent,
Why'd you have to leave me bent?
Forget my insecurities, all around,
Time for me to live in the now,
The music pulses in my veins,
Throw up my hands, ignore this pain,
Dance until my feet ache,
Everyone can't feel this way,
Tap tap tap we walk outside,
Wrap me up, like it's the last night,
Burnt car seats, bass so low,
Head in the clouds, hand out the window,
Fingers turning cold and blue,
Feeling something real and true,
Let the towns rush past,
Living this life way too fast,
Ignore the little belly aches,
You're just another teen angst.
