Aurora the goddess of dawn
With her rosy fingers so bright
Chose favorite of the mortals one
A man she thought would be hers

Fallen in love was she so deep
She had Zeus grant him immortality
But this came a trick so cheap
When her man Tithonus grew old

Aurora through her mistake
Forgot to give the man youth
So as he aged in her wake
She began to see him as wretched

As his hair turned the color white
And no control on his limbs
Aurora could no longer stand the sight
So she sent the man away

In her home he continued to live
Sometimes his voice could be heard
To end the misery of her captive
Aurora turned Tithonus to a grasshopper

Now if you listen closely outside
On a warm summer’s night
You can hear how he cried
All his long life away
