Her tears splatter like the rain outside her window,
As the thunder crackles one last time.
The faded, wrinkled letters of naivety
Remind her of what could have been, what should have been.

She turns on the radio, hoping for pure consolation.
But sure enough a million memories rush to her at the speed of light
Flashing like the lightning outside her window, threatening to strike at her heart. They
Remind her of what could have been, what should have been.

Everyone told her she’d never be happy with him
She cradles her baby and closes her eyes,
Holding on to the reverberations of the storm that
Remind her of what could have been, what should have been.

"heaven's not a place that you go when you die. it's that feeling in time when you feel alive."

Love the way you end every stanza with "could have been, should have been". And great choice of words! Especially love the second stanza because no amount of consolation that you search for, you can't help but feel that pain through the memories. Will defiinitely be looking after your submissions! Great poem!
