It Doesn't Add Up

So here we are again.
Lying on my bed, staring at each other,
You glare at me
Expectantly
But I can't finish
I can't continue
This is hard
This is wrong

How did we end up like this?
Sure, we had good times:
I've been with you for so very long,
Shared many sleepless nights with you,
Went everywhere with you
You made me feel smart,
You made me feel good.

But that was in the past.
Things moved too fast
I can't take the speed
It doesn't add up
I can't take the speed
It doesn't add up
And I leave
The room,
Cursing, crying,
But trying
Not to.

You're not as nice, now,
Not as forgiving.
Now you make me feel lost
Now you make me feel nothing.

Maybe I write too often,
Maybe I don't give you enough attention,

You hear rumors of me,
Fooling around,
With my stories and poetry
But that's no reason, no excuse
The abuse,
However...

I admit, throwing you,
Kicking you,
Beating you senseless
To make you feel as I feel,
Broken, insulted
Defenseless
May have been
Too much

I've tried to make it work
Tried talking with you,
Tried working with you
To rekindle the flame,
To start anew

Occasionally it clicks,
Occasionally it works,
But these days,
You're more trouble than you're worth

Maybe we're just different
Now.
I'm not the same as I was when I met you,
And yet somehow,
You've grown too complex for me to understand
You are such a big part of my life, but I think..
It's time we both move on.

So as you give me the silent treatment,
As leave the room to set you free
Just remember, math homework;
It's not you, it's me.
