oh, darling,
can you imagine us
together
waking up next to
each other?
I’d say, “Good morning"
and you would,
smile at me.
we would make breakfast
and sit on the verandah;
drinking coffee, laughing
at the hummingbirds
and the blue jays.
"you’re off to work already?"
"I’ll be back for lunch, okay?"
the car pulls away,
and I wave good-bye.
but you’ll be back,
I know you will.
quick kiss on the lips
out-of-breath, “I love you"
but your scent lingers,
even though you’ve gone.
