I Wouldn't Judge By Your Cover
your skin is so much more than a protective barrier
 it can tell a story
if only someone is willing to hear it

i want to see where his knuckles kissed your cheek
 and bruised it
how the sheets of your bed
left indented maps on your back that i could trace with a fingertip
 while you breathed slowly in
 and out
 and in again

i want to feel the hard muscle just underneath the surface of your shoulders
 and relax them
taste the salt that dried as your tears stopped flowing

your skin can tell a story
and i'm telling you i want to hear yours
