The girl had a face
like the sun.
She spun
in circles
amid the
wildflowers,
laughing at the blue sky.

But had the sky
been gray,
and the flowers
withering,
she still would have chuckled
at their drooping
brown petals,
and they would have
bloomed
and become pink
again,
just for her,
if only
in her mind.
She made
her own
sun.

This piece is a response to a work of art I love called Woman With A Parasol, by Monet. It is about how we choose how happy we will be, regardless of what environment we are in.
