Split him in half,
and soon two halves
become two wholes.
I wish for this ability,
for the knowledge of eventual completeness,
even as I fracture
into disparate pieces,
splitting in half,
and then in half again.
There are times when I feel even
all the king’s horses
and all the king’s men
could not put me back together.
How is it that from an infinite number of halves,
I cannot piece together a single whole?

The author's comments:
Inspired by the poetry of Kay Ryan, in particularly by "Cheshire." It is simply titled "Worm;" the parenthetical clarification that it is a poem was added because a 5+ character title was required for submission.

Additional author's comment: the word "even" is supposed to go at the end of the previous line (as opposed to being on its own line). The line was to long, so the website reformated it.
