The Girl

When she was just a little girl,
Her mother used to say,
“Hunny, don’t you worry, doll,
Nothing’s made to stay.”

And very soon she realized,
How those words were true,
No one ever took the time,
To get to know her too.

Her daddy was a criminal,
A bad guy, indeed,
Money was his only pleasure,
His eyes just flashed greed.

Her mommy was an addict,
Meth was her only friend,
And she was never there,
To help her daughter mend.

Soon, though, she found a way,
To cure her terrible pain,
Her blade would carve a story,
For her personal gain.

And never did she ever,
Let that blade leave her sight,
Because although it caused her harm,
She needed to hold tight.

But never did she get so close,
To allow herself to die,
Because, although, she wanted to,
She wasn’t ready for goodbye.

And, in fear, she cringed away,
From this hopeless dream,
Praying that just someday,
Heavens gates would beam.

There was always, constantly,
Creepy voices in her head,
Convincing her that,
She’d be better off dead.

“Just cut a little deeper.”
The chilling voice would muse,
Laughing at her futile attempts,
To constantly refuse.

Because, really, no one knew,
About her broken heart,
And how her terrible family,
Had ripped it all apart.

So she prayed for the day,
When someone else would see,
And be the one to save her,
So she could be set free.

But no one would ever notice,
For she was still alone,
And despite how much she tried,
She was on her own.

And she would sit in silence,
And slit her bare, thin wrists,
“Just a little deeper,”
The creepy voice persists.

When the clock struck twelve,
It was time for her to go,
To that very special place,
Where no one would ever know.

The pills were in the bottle,
Now a pile in her hand,
She sighed in contentment,
She fulfilled the voice’s command.

They filled up her mouth,
Its bitterness and all,
She takes a great big swallow,
This was her time to fall.

The clock says it’s one,
Now it’s far too late,
She’s gone, all gone,
It’s her time to see the gate.

Her parents hadn’t realised,
But, I guess, it’s still too late,
She was finally gone,
“Her mind just wasn’t straight.”

Gossip swarmed the town,
Of the girl who had died,
How she was just a mistake,
And how she hadn’t tried.

But try she did, every day,
And nothing was enough,
She wasn’t quite that strong,
Neither was she tough.
