"Some of you may have taken history or civics classes that outlined the freedoms one expects in a democracy. At the heart of those freedoms is choice... With an affirmative choice, all democracy vanishes."

i want to
kiss a stranger
and watch people watch
the sky
not knowing the true beauty is in their wonderment
and sleep in
wake up in a shroud of blankets
as my summer slips into its grave
toss and turn at three am
wake up
and blow bubbles at the night sky
because i can
read too many books stretched out on the hillside
watch my skin darken until
i blend with the night
except coffee-with-creamer colored lines
where my bra strap digs into my shoulder
i will never kiss a stranger
because of the rules engraved
on my heart
to not fall or rise
because the higher you rise
the more you fall
the more you fall, the higher you had rose
if you were not high, you didn’t fall
if you did not fall, you were not high
conditional,converse, inverse,
and all i am truly given
is the
contrapositive to be true
but finals are over
and so are we
and so
in
the end
is
summer
fin.
