Digging

I wonder what the world will think of me
when i’m dead and gone
buried 6 feet under
but weren't we there all along?
digging and digging
and digging down so deep
in a hole we could never hope to reach
the top of because now our hands hurt
and our shovels are broke
just like all those promises
and lies we told
I guess we should of known
that too much ambition leads to a lack of
mental nutrition and a complete absence of feeling
or showing compassion
its a thing of the past and
nothing sickens me more than seeing a child
slowly go, dying from a disease we cured 60 years ago
or a mother loosing her son to adoption all because
she bit the bullet from some manufactured concoction
that so many of us shoot into or blood just so
we can avoid the issue of how much our world really sucks

but that’s just the thing
our world doesn’t suck
it’s just hidden
hidden behind a veil of smog that’s so thick
that even the best of us breathe in the poison that it’s riddled with
See hate, war, death and defeat, yeah it’s all pretty rough
but if you think that’s all there is to this place
then I challenge you to look again because you
aren’t looking hard enough.
