Outside a world subsides.
The nutcrackers beat the drums on their sides,
The teddy bears reach out for a hug,
The whir of airplanes hovering above the Christmas tree,
Caroling of songs brightens the room,
A Chill of Snow sprinkles on top,
Barbies gossiping about Ken's perfect looks,
Checkers move winning the race,
The clock ticks,
5 hours.
Elmo says good night,
Chocolate decadent cookies are left out for Santa.
4 hours.
Eyes stretched out. A blanket of fatigue over you.
Raggedy-Ann comes out and wakes you.
Holds your hand.
Tells you to listen to the magic
The hum of the train that Grandpa gave you.
The whining of the sweaters that make you skin itch.
The chatter of the presents. They rattle the boxes in an effort for your attention.
3 hours.
You stare at the star on the tree.
Hope. The end of the year comes near.
2 hours.
You stare at the presents. The daunting of them makes you reach out your hand….
THE LIGHTS!
They blur your eyes. Santa?
Your mom laughs at your sight,
Your bewilderment.
Lets go to bed.
1 hour. Just 1.
Fine.
You sit on her lap awaiting the moment. The moment of magic. The moment you tear the wrapper slowly like Alice seeing Wonderland.
Finally you run to the tree with your siblings,
And see what's waiting for you.
You shake and open the box.
You cringe.
