Suck in your stomach,
As your eyes cautiously survey the girl in the mirror,
And decide her inadequate.


Trace your finger across the ingredients label,
Because calories in cookies were always known to kill.
Yes, the whole entire room is excruciating observing
You’re abdominals every move.

Say a prayer to God,
Hope you’ll wake up thin
Till then, just suck your stomach in.


The author's comments:
I wrote this poem originally because a lot of my friends were struggling with self esteem issues linked to their weight and, even though it sounds cliche sometimes, I think every person needs to hear that they're beautiful.
