Don't walk in front of me
I will not follow
Don't walk ahead of me
I shall not lead
Just stand beside me
And me my friend

I open my eyes, 3 years ago, it’s Sunday…
The smell of pancakes, sausages, and eggs, waft through my room
I sit down at the table and receive a big kiss on the cheek from dad
After eating Mt. Breakfast, I cuddle with dad while watching cartoons
I open my eyes today, its Sunday… and my dad isn’t here anymore and he isn’t come back

I am from 1997
Born by the gemstone of opal
The month where monsters come out
The stars say I am a Libra
I am from 1998

I am from tags, spray cans, and bared windows
Where “girls” are crude Barbie’s
Boys think they are like rappers, with “swag”
Where a lone bat flies over the graves of the theater seats of the Century 16
I am from tags, spray cans, and bared windows

I am from fierce family freaks
Pop! Fizz! Pop! Grandma is cooking…
Aroma of garlic, chicken, rice, and adobo
Whispers of a different language pulsate through the air
I am from fierce family freaks

I am from dead grass and over populated neighborhoods
Boom boxes screaming throughout the neighborhoods
Teens throwing rocks at cars in the dead of night
My “home” is overrun with children from my neighbors
I am from dead grass and over populated neighborhoods

I am from silent dinners by myself
My clan doesn’t eat dinner together
We hardly talk to each other
Sometimes always fighting each other
I am from silent dinners by myself

I am from pain, grief, and regret
A family of three, who used to be four,
Hopefully now he is resting
Ten years of hate, one terrible death, a lifetime of regret
I am from pain, grief, and regret

I am from 1997
I am from tags, spray cans, and bared windows
I am from fierce family freaks
I am from dead grass and over populated neighborhoods
I am from silent dinners by myself
I am from pain, grief and regret

I am from hugs and kisses from my dad
Every day I wish I could go back
From where I came form
I can’t though
I can’t go back
Only forward

I wrote this because I felt that it isn't your home that defines who you are. I am from the love of my dad and without him, I wouldn't be who I am today...
