looking backwards

Past images
dance before my eyes
A world I never knew
and never will
I’m left to stare at the wall
A canvas
boasting photos, posters, drawings
reminding me of what I’ll never see
mind haunted by thoughts of a war I
never saw
streets in my head crowded with
people
music bombarding my ears
explosion of color blocking my sight as I
dream of a time that
isn’t now
my life passing in front of me
me
taking no notice
looking backwards
