Slow Fade
Isn't it funny
How time and distance
Seem to fade a friendship
From a radiant yellow
To lukewarm bronze
How last years memories
Still in color display
But today's conversation
Is already black and white
I tried not to be
A fair weather friend
But you only reached out
When the sun was already high
Do not think you are alone
In bearing the heavy weight
Of this sinking ship
For how could you have known
I was hurt
When I kept my wounds hidden
And when I tried to give you my love
The door was always closed
But now I realize
I never really tried to open it
We have become empty promises
We are just words and phrases
Proven false even before they are spoken
But is that really all we are?
You say that you miss me
But you do not realize
You are lying to yourself.
