Reaching Out

Oh, dear lord-
Her hull’s sprung a leak.
She’ll drown in the tides
And be found in a week.

I see she waves to the shore-
To her friends and her kin-
She hopes them to save her,
Before she’s done in.

“Save me. Save me!
I don’t want to die-
There’s a whole in the hull
And it’s filling with tide”

Oh, dear lord-
The sea’s claimed another.
She’s drowned in the ocean
Without a word from her mother.

“Save me, Save me!
I don’t want to die-
I’d save myself
But the water’s too high…”

It’s far too late now,
For fate’s had its way,
And when they soon find the body,
I’ll hear them say:

“Tell me, tell me!
Did you wish to die?
I’d have saved you myself,
If I only knew why…”

I'm not entirely sure how well it was conveyed but this was centered around the idea of suicide and the attempts of reaching for help in order to help oneself make it through.
