Spring Fever

When I was a child
staircases seemed
seven stories high.
I looked down from
the top of the stairs
and took each step carefully.

I would play on the
hard, cold, concrete stairs
outside of our old green house.
One day,
my sister watched me,
as I fell to the ground.
To this day,
I have a flat spot on the crown on my head.

Spring was my favorite season.
Bees buzzing around my head.
I would pick flowers -
which weren't really flowers.
They were
green,
prickly,
and pollen filled
weeds
that my mom was allergic to.
But she took them anyway
because she knew it would make me happy.

These are the memories
I wish would never fade.
