The chains are heavy
Shackles tight
And no one can escape its sight
Some can leave
And some must stay
But with them it will go
What is this foul contraption?
And from where does it flow?
It saves a life
But takes another
It causes men to kill each other
Some may say its heavenly
Others say its sad
But all agree that humanity
Without it would be drab
