Reaching for the Lightswitch
Turn on the light.
I dare you.
But first, tell me what you’ll see.
Will the world dazzle before your eyes?
Or will you drown in a sea – of darkness?
Tell me if all that you saw before
will rot.
If the dense stench suffocates you new balloon until you –
pop.
Would you be able to find comfort
Amidst all that you knew?
Turn your cheek to the terror? Or will the light just –
Blind you?
Yes! That’s the question! Where will it aim?!
Will it glow on what you know?
Or will it make your vision lame?
Shut in the dark.
No desire to drive you.
Will you shrivel from complacency?
No passion to bind to?
But hope.
You don’t know what you’ll see,
Be it all or none.
You may emit the warmth
Of a thousand suns – and bring good unto the world.
So, go ahead.
Turn on the light.
You’ll still have to live,
With or without sight.
