To them I am just numbers
My entire life reduced to numbers
An abstract concept
That’s all that I am
That’s all I’ll ever be
A 04 rather than 03

To them
I do not breathe
My heart does not beat
Keeping the rhythm of pumping blood
I do not stay up well past midnight
Trying to correctly combine equations

I don’t think
Or speak
Or live

I am not alive to them
I am simply a factor
A small factor
One of thousands for that year

Numbers that mean so much to me
Yet nothing to them

I am quantified by them
They emphasize individuality
Yet further conform me into a definition
A definition not even worthy of letter
Just simple numbers

I think this poem was great. The last stanza was very good~ i liked how you seem to switch from individuality back to conformity in the same section.

Thank you so much! I don't often write poetry so the encouragement is much appreciated.
